How and where and why we’ve built has always been dictated to us by necessity. What materials are available, military strategy, geological features, geological features deemed holy, proximity to the beach, proximity to Waitrose. Although design has long since evolved beyond necessity, the choices made over millennia with just that fundamental factor in mind, still echo through so much of what is created today. Out of the landscape and an attempt to survive, our ancestors shaped a language and vocabulary we all still speak exist within.
