All of the pieces exhibited at the Wynd Gallery are the work of photographer and filmmaker Pete Wilkinson.

The primary focus of Pete’s work is the local landscape, with the Wynd Gallery showcasing scenes captured throughout the Tyne Valley, the North Pennines, and wider Northumberland.

the Wynd Gallery is more than an exhibition space, offering a range of framing and photographic services alongside a selection of cards and gifts that capture the unique beauty of this special corner of the UK.

Since opening over three years ago, it has become something of a hub in the area for those who appreciate the local landscape, and Pete is very proud to have created a welcoming space and a regular haunt for a small but growing number of discerning customers.

Pete opened the Wynd Gallery in the spring of 2022.

In the years leading up to the pandemic, he had noticed how photography, as a pursuit and means of expression, had changed dramatically. With complex photographic equipment becoming a day-to-day item that most people carried with them, and with the process of shooting, editing and sharing photography becoming something anyone could do, it is no wonder that the role of photography in our culture, shifted. There were some benefits to the change, but by becoming an every-day language that most of the world could speak, photography became ubiquitous, fleeting, remote, and disposable. The Wynd Gallery is Pete’s effort to move his work away from the day-to-day. It is an attempt to create a physical space where time, distance, texture, light, and any number of other elements that require presence and actual interaction, can effect a viewers reaction to a photograph. Pete hopes to encourage a different relationship with his photography, that is as far away as possible to the experience of swiping through shots on a phone as a way to pass time.

Hexham is a market town in west Northumberland

It sits on the south bank of the River Tyne and is perfectly placed to explore a huge selection of diverse landscapes across the north of England. Between the Northumberland Coast, the Cheviot Hills, the Scottish Borders, Hadrian’s Wall, The North Pennines AONB, Newcastle Upon Tyne, the Eden Valley in Cumbria, and of course the Lake District, visitors are spoiled for choice.

Hexham itself is a popular destination for weekenders and day trippers, and is well known for the large numbers of independent traders and makers who populate the various lanes springing out from the ancient centre.

What a shame. Never mind.

You should move that piece to the other wall - it doesn’t work where it is.

Sorry - I know that’s a bit bossy but It’s okay - I’m an artist. You should definitely move it.

Are these coasters? They’re nice. I love the stands too - they’re lovely. I’m assuming the stands come with the coasters?
Oh. Well, if I paid a little more could I take the stands too? Okay. Could I just buy a stand then? Okay. Could you tell me where you got the stands from?
