Restoration
The restoration service at the Wynd Gallery offers clients the opportunity to create digital copies of any existing hardcopy photographs they possess. Then, working from the digital files, we can produce enlarged files and fine art giclee prints with improved re-saturated colour, with damage and imperfections removed, and, in some cases, detail and missing sections restored.
The first stage in the restoration process involves Pete scanning and assessing the photograph. Each image is different and what is possible for one will not necessarily be possible for any other. After the scan and assessment you will receive a set of options, all clearly costed, for you to consider should you wish to proceed.
This initial scan and assessment stage is free of charge - you can therefore feel absolutely secure about approaching us here at the Wynd with your restoration enquiry without any worries as to costs or obligation to proceed. Enquiries and questions are always very welcome.
the process
Following the initial scan and assessment, if your photograph has scope for processing you will be presented with options. The exact details of those options will depend on your particular photograph, but they will generally fall into the following steps:
-
Stage 1: Upgrade - £45.00
Working with the digital file from the initial scan, Pete will perform a general upgrade and upscale of your image. This work will include the removal of imperfections, an image-wide colour correction, and the enlargement of the image using a technique that leads to no detail loss and, in some cases, can actually enhance existing detail.
At the end of this stage of the process you will receive a high resolution digital image file. This can simply be saved for posterity, shared with friends and relatives, or used to create new prints on a larger scale and with clearer definition that the original.
-
Stage 2: Restoration - £90.00
Not all images that are scanned will need (or indeed will benefit from) a Stage 2 Full Restoration. This next in-depth level of work is for photographs that have more severe marks, stains, creases, scratches or tears. You will be informed after the initial scan if this treatment is an option for your image and what work will be possible.
You’ll be given details as to exactly what can be done and exactly how much this would cost. As with Stage 1, you’ll receive a high resolution digital image file at the end of the process. Stage 2 incorporates and builds upon a Stage 1 Upgrade as standard.
-
Stage 3: Printing (Costs vary)
Once you’ve received your restored image as a high resolution digital file, it is yours and you are free to share it and have it printed whenever and however you see fit. At the Wynd we offer a fine art giclee print service and, after working on your photographs for you, would be very happy to produce prints also. We process all images on 300gsm archival fine art paper which, with the giclee process means your images are as detailed, colour accurate, and as long-lasting as possible.
Print prices vary depending on dimensions but all sizes are possible.
-
Stage 4: Framing (Costs vary)
We offer a full framing service at the Wynd via our colleagues at Castle Framing in Brampton. We have a selection of close to 100 frames to choose from, alongside a similar number of mounting options. We can make sure your finished, fully restored, fine art photographic print, is presented in a custom made frame that is tailored specifically to your image.
Examples of the frames we offer can be viewed on our framing page. Costs vary but quotes are supplied at the initial scan stage of the process and before any work is carried out.
