Location
Swallowship Woods, Hexham
Thread
Less than a mile south of the centre of Hexham is a large woodland at the top of a very steep hill. It is in fact a number of small woodlands, each with its own name, but most locals refer to it under a collective title - Swallowship Woods. Because of its composition, Swallowship can have many different characters, depending on the day, time, season, or point of entry. There are tarns, ruins, tumble-down dry-stone walls, and carving its way through it all, there is The Devil’s Water.
