Most successful mountain images are demonstrations of the two key components of photography - planning and circumstance. More often than not, it is difficult to find oneself in the position to capture dramatic peaks and valleys without first having planned a route. And yet, once on location, the photographer is still subject to elements he/she/they have no control over. Each image in this gallery is the result of that key photographic partnership of effort and luck, foresight and fortune, craft and chance, and each is the better for it.
