Haugh

from £36.00

Haugh was captured on a winter morning looking east from Hexham Bridge. The River Tyne snakes its way eastwards with the plantations of Swallowship Woods in the distance. What appears to be the south bank of the river, on the right of the picture, is actually Broomhaugh Island, a deceptively large Islet around which the river forks.

Hexham Bridge was built in 1793. It spans a huge weir with grand sandstone arches and has been the main route into town for close to 250 years. The view to the east is often overlooked but, in the right conditions (and if you squint a bit), can offer up a scene of the Tyne Valley almost unspoilt by signs of urban sprawl
