Handmade Photobook (Limited Edition)

£55.00

‘If you lived here, you’d be home by now’ is a handmade concertina photobook that explores a local Northumbrian woodland. A limited edition run of twenty-two copies was released in the Autumn of 2025. The first two copies of the book have been kept by the author, with the remaining twenty being made available for purchase.

When the pandemic hit in the Spring of 2022 Pete returned to Hexham from many years spent in the south-east. Like many others, the concentrated time in and around his home meant he started to look at the place he knew so well in a new way. His daily one hour window of exercise became an opportunity to explore, to find new paths and patches, and to revisit places he hadn’t seen in years.

A local woodland just a fifteen minute walk outside of Hexham became a favourite location, and so a fascination began with the various shades and textures it contained and the different atmospheres created at different times of day. The woodland had a character that changed with the seasons, and ‘If you lived here, you’d be home by now’ is Pete’s attempt to document that change.

If you lived here you’d be home by now

  • Twenty copies of ‘If you lived here, you’d be home by now’ were made available in the Autumn of 2025 (numbers 1 & 2 of a run of twenty-two being retained by the author and maker, Pete).

Each copy of the book is numbered on the inside page as part of a short statement noting the above, and comes with a signed and stamped certificate with a corresponding statement and number.

  • The book is a compact 100 × 100mm concertina block, printed on a thick textured photocard that has been bone folded and glued by Pete.

The book block has then been fixed into a hardback cover, also handmade by Pete using grey board, mull, cotton book linens and Japanese decorative or Italian marbled end papers. Four linens were used - Natural, Deep Lake, Pimlico & Green.

Pete also designed a simple handmade case. Each is made from a textured paper from creative paper company GF Smith. Three are inlaid with decorative pattern papers, the rest are bare. All close with a simple button and string clasp or elasticated wrap around strap.

  • ‘If you lived here, you’d be home by now’ consists of twenty-three pages of images captured across Swallowship Woods in Hexham, Northumberland, over the course of a fourteen month period.

All of the images are available as individual giclee fine art prints. The image ‘Green’, a panoramic misty woodland scene was shortlisted in the Landscape category of the British Photographer of the Year Awards in 2021.
